Can we transform ourselves completely? My answer is Yes. Do we need lots of money for it? My answer is no, unless and until you need to do plastic surgery, bariatric surgery, or any other surgeries. You don’t have to have lots of money to transform yourself. However, you have to have an intention. In this blog, I will discuss two mindblowing scientific well-established processes that will blow your mind.

You can completely transform your personality in no time if you understand epigenetics and neuroplasticity.

Epigenetics:

It is a study that includes how your lifestyle, life events, and exposed environment alter your genetic work. However, in epigenetics, the DNA sequence remains the same, but it changes our body’s perception of the DNA sequence. For example, two brothers received the same genetic information from their parents. However, while growing up, they grew up in entirely different environments and with different lifestyles. Both of their bodies will have different interpretations of the same genetic information they have received.

Another example is if a person has a genetic load of strong family history of diabetic incidence in the late 30s, then epigenetics will decide how to interpret that gene. If the person follows a similar lifestyle or maybe worse than that, then the possibility is this person will be diagnosed with diabetes during the same timeframe. However, being aware of the genetic load and trying to modify the lifestyle beneficially can delay the incidence of diabetes.  This happens because of epigenetic modifications. There are several types of genetic changes like DNA methylation, histone modification, Non-coding RNA, etc. We will talk about them in our next blog.

This sum ups that we can alter how our body reads DNA sequence with the help of epigenetics. Also, this can help at the individual level to delay or prevent the metabolic disorders that run in the family by modifying the lifestyle and exposure to the particular environment. Now the question is, what are the factors that affect epigenetics? The Moral is whatever we consume and get exposed to affects epigenetics in various capacities.

Neuroplasticity:

Neuroplasticity is the power of the brain to change its structure and functions at any stage of life. It means we can learn and unlearn anything at any age. As we start learning something new, our brain cells create new neural pathways, and as we keep practicing them, the neural pathways get stronger.

The more we challenge our brain longer it stays healthy. This shows the need to engage in skillful activities, such as learning a new language or music, if we want to fight age-related neurodegenerative diseases like dementia, Alzheimer’s, etc.

Our dietary habits, stress levels, and lifestyle everything has an impact on neuroplasticity. By making changes in our actions, we can change our brains in both positive and negative ways. The more we work on neutral plasticity becomes easier to improve cognitive functions and adapt to changes around us. Also, it is crucial for recovery from brain injuries, psychological disturbances, and degenerated motor functions.

Epigenetics and Neuroplasticity are two powerful tools that can completely transform us if used wisely. However, to facilitate improved brain function and epigenetic changes intermittent fasting is always a handful.
